Question

I keep getting a security warning when I try to use Discover GALILEO. How do I stop this?

Answer

In Internet Explorer 7+, you will need to add EBSCO as a trusted site and enable display of mixed content when using Discover GALILEO (powered by EBSCO Discovery Service).

Here are instructions for doing this. You must make both changes in order to not see the security warning popup window.

Internet Explorer 11:

Add EBSCO as trusted site:

  1. Click the icon that looks like a gear from the top-right of the screen.
  2. Select “Internet Options” from the drop-down menu.
  3. In the Internet Options dialog box, choose the “Security” tab
  4. Choose the Trusted Sites section (green check mark icon).
  5. Click the Sites button
  6. Uncheck Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone
  7. Type in *.ebscohost.com
  8. Click the Add button (you can now recheck the “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone” box if you prefer to have this setting)
  9. Close the Trusted Sites window
  10. Click the Custom Level… button in the Trusted Sites section of the Security tab
  11. Scroll down to “Display Mixed Content”

  14. Then, click the OK button for the Internet Options window
  15. You may need to close and reopen your browser for the settings to take effect
